Phones aren’t selling well this year, Qualcomm says, so Black Friday could be the time to buy

You might think coming out of a pandemic with people once again would boost demand for smartphones, but it seems the opposite is true as sales could drop 10% or more this year.

This is in line with Qualcomm, who in their latest earnings release – as discovered by On the edge (opens in new tab) – predicted there could be a “low double-digit percentage decline” in handset volume this year compared to last year. That’s a bigger drop than expected, with the company revising an earlier estimate it made of a mid-digit percentage decline.
