Consumer electronics startup Boat (Boat) has been the leading headphone brand in India for the past two years. Continuing its good form in the Indian market, the company announced that it had manufactured 1 million ‘made-in-India’ units in a single quarter.
Vivek Gambhir, CEO of Imagine Marketing, which owns Boat, said: “As India reaches its 75-year milestone, we at Boat are delighted to have reached the milestone of manufacturing one million Made In India products in first quarter of fiscal year 23. It is a testament to the love we receive from our loyal customers.
Indian brands dove headfirst into making the Make in India dream come true. By 2025, Indian brands are expected to drive 35-40% of the hearing aid market and 25-30% of the wearables market, by value, due to their agility in meeting consumer expectations, he added.
Boat ventured into manufacturing and developing bluetooth-enabled audible products in India after a joint venture with contract manufacturer Dixon Technologies in January 2022.
Boat will increase its Indian supplier base
As of the first quarter of fiscal 2022, a large number of Boat products in the Rockerz, Bassheads and Airdopes product lines as well as accessories (including cables and power banks) are being manufactured in India. Boat Bassheads 100, Bassheads 192, Bassheads 225, Rockerz 255 Pro, Rockerz 235v2, Airdopes 131, Airdopes 101, Airdopes 441, power banks, charging cables and power bricks are among the current products available in Boat’s “Make in India” initiative. .
Boat also said it plans to increase Indian suppliers for its manufacturing activities and also scale production. The company said the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme has supported brands like it by enabling viable options for local manufacturing, reducing logistics costs, bringing manufacturing closer to the point of use and creating economies of scale that would reduce further the costs.
To commemorate the occasion, Boat launched the Rock in India campaign, which highlights “the dedication and meticulousness of unsung heroes in designing and manufacturing each unit, akin to watching an artist create music”.
In collaboration with music composer Mayur Jumani, Boat said he was celebrating the symphony created with the sounds of every corner of the factory, embodying it in a track that echoes the hustle and passion of India.
