PC sound specialist Creative has unveiled its new Creative Pebble Pro speakers – an enhanced version of its popular orb-like stereo Pebble desktop system.
Coming just months after the brand launched the budget but impressive Pebble Plus, the Pebble Pro features new full-range drivers, state-of-the-art Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and includes a digital rather than analog amplifier stage with built-in processing. of sound.
Creative claims that the new configuration allows for more audio headroom, which delivers louder, clearer sound across all volume ranges, as well as up to 3.5 times more bass over the Pebble V3.
Alongside the audio enhancements, Pebble Pro also introduces a new RGB lighting feature on the underside of each speaker, offering a wide selection of colors along with three lighting effects (Cycle, Pulsate or Solo). Clearly, the company hopes that these will be an entry in the list of the best computer speakers that will appeal to gamers and their irrepressible love for RGB.
As with the Pebble Plus, the Pebble Pro features a slightly angled speaker design for a more directed sound wave towards the ears of a seated listener – they’re smaller than most top stereo speakers, so this design aims to add expansiveness and height.
Unlike the Pebble Plus, there’s no option for a separate subwoofer, however Creative seems to think you won’t need one, thanks to the Pro’s case design and BassFlex tuning technology, which they claim can deliver low-end response. extended frequency and pronounced bass, even when the volume is turned down.
Meanwhile, the built-in audio processing includes Creative’s custom Clear Dialog feature, which, when activated, captures spoken word content and enhances it over ambient sound effects.
There’s a pretty comprehensive array of connectivity options, with Bluetooth 5.3 support, a 3.5mm aux port, headphone and microphone ports, and a USB-C port for streaming audio and power, along with a power dial. dedicated volume in front of the right orb which also doubles a controller for RGB lighting.
While the speakers can be powered from your computer via the aforementioned USB-C port, to get the full benefits of the Pebble Pro you must plug them into a 30-watt adapter, which allows for a hefty 30W RMS. and 60W peak output. Unfortunately, the adapter is not included in the box and is available as an optional extra.
Creative Pebble Pro is priced at $59.99 / £65.99 (about AU$93) and is available now.
Review: The new Pro version speakers feel like a general steal
We were blown away by the “criminally cheap” Creative Pebble Plus 2.1 stereo speakers earlier this year, which raised our expectations for these latest more premium additions to the series.
There’s a slightly higher asking price for these latest desktop speakers, but the new drivers and audio processing should more than justify the extra expense, and that’s not without taking into account the moody RGB lighting feature.
We have reservations about the venerable noughties-dyed Creative logo being emblazoned across the front of the tastefully designed soundballs, and we’re intrigued as to how they can deliver a low thump without a sub, but we have high hopes for the Pebble Pro and can’t wait. wait to put them to the test.
