Infinity Ward teased its upcoming Modern Warfare 2 map, though perhaps not where you’d expect.
Releasing a preview via TikTok, the latest multiplayer map for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is called Farm 18. There’s not much to see here, the TikTok video only provides a few seconds of gameplay, so we recommend moderating expectations. Instead, this video details the team’s inspirations for the new map, talking to two developers.
First up is Geoffrey Smith, director of multiplayer design for Modern Warfare 2. Telling us that Farm 18 takes inspiration from Modern Warfare’s Shoothouse map, states that the team sought to introduce “hidden training facilities”, opting to use a “factory of industrial cement”. As such, Farm 18 contains a central warehouse that will serve as the heart of the action.
The video then switches to Ashley Thundercliff, a senior environmental artist. For her segment, Thundercliff explains how the team balanced the realism of the map without compromising on gameplay. “If we’re too dense with the foliage, we have people hiding in the corners. If we’re not dense enough, we don’t sell the overgrowth narrative,” she confirms.
It’s just a brief teaser, but if you’re interested in watching it, you can do so through the official Call of Duty. twitter page below:

It’s not long before the beta
Activision is slowly gearing up for a big multiplayer reveal with its latest entry. Alongside the reveal of Farm 18, last week brought news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer is getting an open beta. Participants can experience multiplayer over two consecutive weekends, and if you pre-ordered it, that comes with two days of early access before it goes live.
Admittedly, though, the beta is disappointing news for Xbox gamers. The first weekend, starting September 16, is exclusive to PS4 and PS5 players. If you are purchasing Modern Warfare 2 on an Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or PC, it will only be available the second weekend, starting September 22nd.
At the moment, we don’t know much about what’s included in this beta, but we don’t have to wait too long. Activision confirmed that it will host Call of Duty: Next (opens in new tab)an upcoming presentation that will shed light on Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Specific times have yet to be confirmed, but this will air on September 16th.
